New Book Update

It's been a while since I've posted to this blog but I see that people still find posts on it, so here's a quick update on current projects. The most up to date info is usually on my website www.neuroticraven.com and on Facebook if we are connected.

I am working hard on my latest book project, From Panels to Frames: Comic Art in Museums, for the University Press of Mississippi, which is scheduled for spring 2018. I am researching key exhibitions between 1934 and 1985, and I also have a stellar group of contributors.

I have a chapter on comic art exhibitions in the newly released Routledge Handbook of the Secret Origins of Comics Studies, edited by Matt Smith and Randy Duncan. This valuable book maps out who the pioneers were in their various specialties, and gives a quick overview of the scholarship that is already available. My chapter focuses on shows from 1934 to the present, particularly Bande Dessinee et Figuration Narrative (Paris, 1967), the founding of the International Museum of Cartoon Art (Mort Walker, 1974), the founding of the Cartoon Art Museum (Malcolm Whyte, 1988), Masters of American Comics (Carlin, Walker, Spiegelman, Philbin, 2005), the exhibitions of Trina Robbins, and the exhibitions of Paul Gravett. Aside from this, I have recently presented on the 50th anniversary of Bande Dessinee et Figuration Narrative (1967) at the San Diego Comics Fest, WonderCon (Anaheim), and the Popular Culture Association's national conference (San Diego).
