I am working hard on my latest book project, From Panels to Frames: Comic Art in Museums, for the University Press of Mississippi, which is scheduled for spring 2018. I am researching key exhibitions between 1934 and 1985, and I also have a stellar group of contributors.
I have a chapter on comic art exhibitions in the newly released Routledge Handbook of the Secret Origins of Comics Studies, edited by Matt Smith and Randy Duncan. This valuable book maps out who the pioneers were in their various specialties, and gives a quick overview of the scholarship that is already available. My chapter focuses on shows from 1934 to the present, particularly Bande Dessinee et Figuration Narrative (Paris, 1967), the founding of the International Museum of Cartoon Art (Mort Walker, 1974), the founding of the Cartoon Art Museum (Malcolm Whyte, 1988), Masters of American Comics (Carlin, Walker, Spiegelman, Philbin, 2005), the exhibitions of Trina Robbins, and the exhibitions of Paul Gravett. Links to a draft of this chapter and several related articles are posted on my writing web page at http://www.neuroticraven.com/writing/
